• The first race of the year in Valencia, City of Running will take place this Sunday, the 13th of January (9:00a.m) hoping to be the best race so far.
• In 2019, for the first time the race has the Bronze Label awarded by the IAAF and also debuts a new course: making it faster and flatter than ever before.
• The Paseo de la Alameda will become the scene of a great festival of running, starting to the rhythm of never before seen Chimo Bayo’s Hu-Ha! and will offer a variety of other services and parallel races.
Valencia, 08-01-2019.- The 10K Vakencia Ibercaja, which this year has attained the IAAF Bronze Label and hopes to one day get Gold, inaugurates the year’s season of races in Valencia, City of Running, on this Sunday the 13th of January, with near to 13 000 runners signed up so far, of which 30 % are women. These details were given at the presentation ceremony that took place this morning at Ibercaja’s Valancian offices, the main sponsor of the race, that was attended by Chimo Bayo and representatives of Valencia’s main running clubs.
The thousands of runners will be starting the race from the Paseo de la Alamenda at 9:00 a.m. will be the first to run on the race’s newly modified circuit “flatter and faster, designed to for the runners to fly. A new route certified by the REFA/IAAF, where the incline on the Puente del Real and the 6 90 degree turns between kilometres 7 and 9 of the old route have been removed” explained the director of the race Alex Aparicio.
Moreover, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja, that this year has also taken up second place on the ranking of the best 10K races in Spain according to REFA (2017/2018 season), also hopes to attain a new record by achieving a better running time than that attained in 2017 by Nicholar Mboroto Kosembi (27:52) “ and while were at it, we hope this race will be the best 10K to take place Spain”, pointed out Alex Aparicio.
A Festival of Running
This Sunday the 13th of January, the Paseo de la Alameda will become the scene of a great festival of running, with the start of the race to the rhythm of never before seen Chimo Bayo’s Hu-Ha! and a whole variety of services offered to the runners alongside the parallel races for young and old: Milla, Milla Menores and 10Kids.
The sports and health councillor Maite Girau, has taken advantage of her speech to point out that the city of Valencia “Starts this year as it ended the last one: doing sport. This race is the first of the more than 130 sports events, that during the year of 2019 the citizens of Valencia will be able to take part in” She also made sure to highlight the quality of this of this event in terms of female participation that this year has achieved 30% female participation.
To finish off, she did not forget to mention the “numerous and innovative services that ensure that the thousands of runners will enjoy the race to the full, helped by the 600 volunteers and the hundred local police workers that make it possible for the race to run smoothly. This Sunday the 13th of January there’s only one thing left to do: enjoy.”
For his part, the Provincial Director of Ibercaja in Valencia, Jose Gil, highlighted that it’s with great pride that his organisation collaborates with this race. “one of the most important events, for us at an international scale and of course in Valencia. We strongly identify with the values of this sport: a culture of endeavour and endurance. It’s an honour to take part in a race that year after year strives to better itself in quality for its runners.”
The Director of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, Elena Tejedor, has mentioned that thanks to the 10K Valencia Ibercaja,” we see a whole lot of people who later go on to make the Marathon even bigger. This race has its own special quality and personality and really takes good care of its runners”
