The Ethiopians Chala Ketema and Tsehay Gemechu set the record for the race by crossing the finish line at 27:23 (male category) and 30:15 (female category), respectively.

Valencia, 13-01-2019.– The 10K Valencia Ibercaja, which this year releases the IAAF Bronze Label, achieves a rainfall of records in an edition in which a total of 10,838 runners crossed the finish line.
The first of the records was broken by Chala Ketema (Ethiopia), who beat the circuit’s best time with 27:23. This mark makes the 10K Valencia Ibercaja one of the fastest 10K in Spain. In addition, the first nine runners crossed the finish line with a time under 28 minutes.
In the female category, the winner of the race Tsehay Gemechu also beats the female circuit record, Achieving a time of 30:15. Tsehay was followed by three other athletes below the women’s circuit record of 30:57 (achieved in 2018).
Another of the records of the day camefrom Trihas Gebre, who achieved the Spanish record of 10K female, crossing the finish line in 31:39 (eighth overall). This way Trihas Gebre proves her great physical condition in one of the fastest and flattest circuits that currently exist in Spanish territory. Also, the first Spanish athlete, who has managed to enter ninth in the general classification, was Juan Antonio “Chiqui” Pérez (Serrano C.A.) with a time of 27:59, thus confirming his current high level.
Martín Fiz, the best result in the world
Much of the focus was on the figure of the world marathon champion, Martin Fiz. The athlete from Vitoria has achieved the challenge he set himself and has achieved the best result in the world for 10K M55 with a time of 31:36. After winning the five Majors Marathons in his category, Fiz marks this historic milestone after having achieved the Spanish record in the same distance just a month ago in the 10K Valencia Trinidad Alfonso.
Valencia is the setting for his last two achievements. For this the best result in the world, the Spanish athlete has had the help of several athletes from Serrano C.A. such as Nacho Cáceres or Luis Félix, and with Nacho Barranco as official hare.
More than 10.000 people reached the finish line
The XI edition of the 10K Valencia Ibercaja is consolidated as one of the main 10K events in Spain in terms of services to the runner, quality and participation. In fact, a total of 10,838 people crossed the finish line of a race that has the IAAF Bronze Label and aims for Gold.
The 10K Valencia Ibercaja opened the year of races in Valencia City of Running in a day in which thousands of runners have been able to enjoy an event aimed at participants. This year, Chimo Bayo has been in charge of pre-race entertainment and livening up the start of the race.
In addition to the 10K, the Paseo de la Alameda has been the scene of a Milla (Mile) and other events aimed at the youngest as the Milla Menores (Junior Mile) and 10Kids, where hundreds of children have run and participated in the party.
