Valencia, 25-06-2021.- Valencia Ciudad del Running continues to count on the best races in Spain for another year. The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation held its Annual Gala to award, among other distinctions, the best race organisers in the national calendar, with the highest distinction going to the 10K Valencia Ibercaja and the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon, according to the scoring scale of the federative body.
In January 2020, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja celebrated its 12th edition with a World Record for the distance with Rhonex Kipruto and a European Record with Julien Wanders, who together with more than 12,000 popular runners completed the most successful edition of this Gold Label event. Some milestones that, according to the RFEA's points system for different concepts, put him at the top of the list in 2020.
Two months later, the world pandemic of COVID-19 arrived, which caused the cancellation of many races, although the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon could be held in its Elite Edition version, with new male and female records, the Spanish marathon record and more than 60 qualifying times for the Tokyo Olympics. These records were enough to lead the classification in the marathon distance, despite not being able to count on the extra points awarded by the popular participation.
Looking forward to the 2021 edition
The 10K Valencia Ibercaja celebrates its 13th edition this coming Sunday, October 3rd. Due to the health situation, this 2021 could not be held on its traditional date of the second Sunday of January, and was moved to October. The race has already opened for registration (with a maximum of 7,000 runners), and only two days after the opening, the number of runners has already exceeded 5,000. It is clear that there is a desire to run in the best 10K in Spain.
