Valencia, 28-09-2021.- The 10K Valencia Ibercaja, which celebrates its 13th edition this coming Sunday, October 3rd, is ready for a new party in Valencia Ciudad del Running with 7,500 registered runners.
A few days before the race and after its 2020 edition with a world record, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja has organised the presentation ceremony to offer the details of this Sunday at the headquarters of the Asindown Foundation, this year's solidarity organisation and which has thanked the collaboration of the runners and the boys and girls of the Foundation who will be volunteering on race day.
Following the latest health measures announced on Monday by the Generalitat de Catalunya, race director Álex Aparicio has confirmed that the start of the race has been organised in three waves of 2,500 runners separated by 10 minutes from 8:30am.
Although before the first start, which will be led by the elite male athletes, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja "will start at 8:20 am with a first and innovative start with only elite female athletes with their pacemakers".
In this way, "we seek a greater role for women, who will enter the finish line first in an edition that seeks to attack the women's world record in 10K", said Aparicio, who added that the whole team "has been working hard and with great enthusiasm, with the support of institutions and sponsors, to make all the popular runners enjoy themselves once again. Let's hope that, once again, they do it to the rhythm of Chimo Bayo's Hu-Ha ".
For his part, Manuel Campos, manager of Asindown, stressed the importance of sport as a fundamental tool for the inclusion of the Foundation's users. "Running is essential for the resilience and self-improvement of any person, but especially for people with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities, as the change it generates in their lives is extremely positive".
A race that doesn't fail
This race, which closed its registrations last Monday 27th September, opens every year the calendar of races in Valencia Ciudad del Running, as it is traditionally held on the second Sunday of January. In 2020 it was one of the last races to be held in the city before the pandemic, but in 2021 it had to be moved to 3 October.
In fact, as Juan Miguel Gómez, director of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, pointed out at the event, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja "is the only race in Spain that has managed to dodge and adapt to the pandemic and was held in 2020 with popular runners, it is being held this year 2021 with popular runners and will be held again in January 2022 with popular runners, we are sure".
For the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, and for the city as well," he continued, "it is fortunate to have a race like the 10K in Valencia Ciudad del Running. And that is why it is key that national brands such as Ibercaja are also key allies in continuing to support this organisation to help the growth of this race". "In 2020 we lived and enjoyed a world record, hopefully this 2021 we can complete it with a women's world record", he added.
During his speech, the manager of the Municipal Sports Foundation, Borja Santamaría, said that it is "a source of pride to see how every day our races continue to grow in number with total safety and normality, thanks to the work of great teams and with the support of the institutions. It is also a joy to see how the fans of this sport can once again enjoy themselves in a city that is a pioneer in the return to running with the #ValènciaCorre races, the Women's Race, the 5K Valencia or the 15K Nocturna. And this 3 October we will do it again".
Finally, José Gil, Provincial Director of Ibercaja in Valencia, wanted to thank "the efforts of the organisation and volunteers, as well as the support of institutions and other sponsors, who make possible the celebration of this 10K, which we are very proud to be part of since its inception. We are convinced that this 3rd October the thousands of runners will enjoy a new edition that will surely bring, as always, many joys".
