Valencia, 14-01-2021.- The 10K Valencia Ibercaja mobilised a total of 1,199 runners in its virtual race that took place this past weekend, just when we could have enjoyed a new edition of the race that opens the Valencia Ciudad del Running calendar every year.

For four days, from Friday 8 to Monday 11, participants were able to run their 10 kilometres from anywhere, always respecting health regulations, and upload their activity through various mobile applications. Of the nearly 1,200 registered participants, 692 runners have uploaded their activity at this point, thus counting their times towards the final ranking of the virtual race.

This race, which always attracts a large number of participants from all over Spain and also from outside the country, has counted in its virtual version with participants from more than 30 Spanish provinces such as Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza or Guipúzcoa, and with runners from 12 different countries. Specifically, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja has been run in England, France, United States, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Senegal, Brazil, Scotland, Bulgaria, Argentina and Poland.

Likewise, 87% (1,039 runners) of those registered chose the option of registration with a reserved place for the official race that will take place on 3 October this year. With this option, the bibs will be guaranteed in strict order of registration and with the advantage of access to the lowest price bracket for registration for the October event. These runners paid an extra €5 which will be deducted from the registration fee for the 10K Valencia Ibercaja 2021.

The aim of the organisation, as explained by the race director, Álex Aparicio, is "to keepalive the unmistakable spirit of the 10K Valencia Ibercaja offering the possibility of running together, and in the way that the current conditions allow us, on the second weekend of the year. This has been the date on which the 10K has been held since its first edition, on 11 January 2009, which, under the name of 10K Ciudad de Valencia Contra el Cáncer, was launched with so much enthusiasm and which, after 13 years, has become a national and international reference".

The virtual winners

In terms of competition, the overall winners were Francisco Cabrera (Disa HPS Triatlón) and Elena Silvestre (Atlético San Sebastián) with a time of 30:48 and 38:40, respectively. Nicolás Domínguez (32:35) and Antonio Martín (33:04) completed the men's podium, and María Velázquez (39:36) and Paula Borrego (40:59) completed the women's podium.

The most numerous clubs were Paterna Runners Club (34 runners), Redolat Team (22) and Team 3FDC (13), while the fastest were Redolat Team (07:16:09), Paterna Runners Club (07:26:50) and Team 3FDC (07:29:13). All of them, as well as the first three in the M40, M50 and M60 categories, will be presented with a commemorative trophy in due course. All "finishers" who have completed their virtual race will receive a commemorative digital diploma.
