Valencia, 9-01-2021.- The 10K Valencia Ibercaja has once again filled the city of running with emotion with more than 7,000 runners who have enjoyed the first race of the year.
From the Paseo de la Alameda, the participants took the start - as is now tradition - to the rhythm of Chimo Bayo's Hu-Ha! The race, which had all the necessary security measures, offered a total of five waves separated by five minutes and preceded by a single start of elite female athletes.
The best 10K in Spain according to the RFEA and the fastest in the world, has once again made thousands of runners fly across the finish line in an edition in which Kenyan athletes Norah Jeruto (30:35) and Daniel Simiu Ebenyo (26:58) have been proclaimed winners. The race maintains the world record (Rhonex Kipruto, 26:24), the European record for men (Julien Wanders, 27:13) and the Spanish record for women (Trihas Gebre, 31:39).
At the national level, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja has experienced an exciting finish line for the Spaniards Carlos Mayo and Chiki Pérez, who had prepared the race with all the desire and enthusiasm to get close to the Spanish record (27:48). In the end, they finished first and second with a time of 28:12 and 28:23, respectively. In the women's race, the winner was Meritxell Soler, who stopped the clock in 32:34, moving up to fifth place in the Spanish ranking for the all-time distance.
A popular party with 10Kids
Despite the circumstances, thanks to the efforts of institutions, organisation, participants, collaborators and volunteers, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja has once again demonstrated that it is possible to run safe races in the city of running and has achieved its objective: to make thousands of popular runners enjoy once again what they like the most.
As for the classification of the clubs, the fastest were C.A. Albacete, C.D. Metaesport and Serrano C.A; and the most numerous were Redolat Team, Paterna Runners Club and Runners Ciutat de València.
In addition, this year the race, with the support of Hyundai Autiber Motor, has rescued its 10Kids, which had to be cancelled in its last edition, welcoming nearly 400 children who have been able to run some metres of the circuit of the main race. Thus, the young runners, up to the age of 16, have also been able to enjoy the 10K Valencia Ibercaja party again.
