- The 10K Valencia Ibercaja, the Trinidad Alfonso Zurich Valencia Half Marathon and the Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Marathon in their 2021 editions. The ranking prepared by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation takes into account many variables such as organisational capacity and results.

Valencia City of Running once again has the best races in Spain, according to the official ranking that the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) carries out among the road races in its calendar. The 2021 editions of the 10K Valencia Ibercaja, the Trinidad Alfonso Zurich Valencia Half Marathon and the Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Marathon were the races with the highest scores in this ranking, which has returned to normality after two years. 

The 10K Valencia Ibercaja climbs to the top step of the podium in the 10 kilometre distance, a position it had already reached in previous years, with 3661 points, followed by the San Silvestre Vallecana Internacional (3237) which drops one step and the Villa de Laredo (1741), third of the 26 races that scored points.

In half marathons, the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Half Marathon is once again the best of all (3828), closely followed by the Edreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona (3690) and the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon (2081) closing the same podium in 2019, out of a total of 23 races scored.

Among the 11 marathons in the classification, once again this year the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon (6518) leads the ranking, which is the great national and international showcase of this distance in our country, achieving the highest historical scores, followed by the Zurich Barcelona Marathon (1318) and the EDP Rock 'n' Roll Madrid Marathon (1318).

A ranking with many variables

This classification is based on a scale that takes into account aspects such as the organisational capacity of each event, the seniority in the RFEA calendar, the number of participants, the sporting level of the competition and the level of the participating athletes. Once these points have been added up, the classification is divided into different categories according to distance (mile, 10km, Half Marathon, Marathon and 100km), the official score being the average of the last three editions.

The variety and quantity of variables analysed in the ranking give even more value to the fact that the Valencia Ciudad del Running races occupy the top positions in three of the five distances analysed and demonstrates the city's commitment to the practice of this sport as well as the quality of the races held, which have become a reference not only nationally but also internationally. In fact, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja holds the current world record in the men's 10K and the Valencia Half Marathon holds the world record in the women's 21K.
