Valencia, 12-01-2020.- The 10K Valencia Ibercaja launched its World Athletics Gold Label (new name of the IAAF) in a big way with the new World Record of Rhonex Kipruto (26:24) and also a European Record by Julien Wanders (27:13), and with a new historical record of finish line arrivals this Sunday, the best participation in its history after having exceeded over 14,500 registered runners.
In addition to the runners who flew through the streets of Valencia City of Running at the opening of the annual calendar, a total of 12,188 runners crossed the finish line along with the winners, in what was a great sporting morning in Valencia. Among the thousands of participants, the high number of female presence in the event stands out, with more than 3,600 women (30% of the total), which year after year allows this event to get closer to its objective #LaMitadMásUna.
Thousands of athletes set off from the Alameda starting line at 9:30 am to enjoy a fast and flat circuit after the energetic start of Chimo Bayo at the rhythm of its classic ‘Hu-Ha!
The director of the race, Álex Aparicio, said that “we are still a race where most runners are non-professionals, and that is why we are so proud of the great records achieved and the number of participants and finishers we have had in this event. Moreover, many of them will have improved their personal records in this 10K Valencia Ibercaja, as it is a fast track for everyone”.
The running party
The Paseo de la Alameda was the heart of a running party with the celebration of one of the fastest 10K in the world and other parallel events for young and old. The Mile (1,609 meters) featured more than 30 athletes, while nearly a thousand children participated in the junior version, Kids Mile, and the different distances of the 10Kids Hyundai Autiber Motor- no one could miss it.
The solidarity side of the event
This year’s solidarity entity was the Pedro Cavadas Foundation, to which the runners were able to donate 3 euros when they registered. Thus, 2,003 participants have chosen to make this solidarity donation, thanks to which 6,009 Euros have been collected to be used for the humanitarian surgical campaigns carried out by the Foundation. In addition, the collection of the inscriptions (1 euro per bib) of the children’s tests was entirely destined to Duchenne Parent Project Spain.
