Pedro Cavadas Foundation
The Pedro Cavadas Foundation is a non-profit foundation that was created in 2003 with the aim of providing modern reconstructive surgery to disadvantaged patients in African countries. It has organised humanitarian surgical campaigns in Kenya until the end of 2013, and since then it has moved its activity to Tanzania for safety reasons. In the campaigns, patients with reconstructive problems are operated on completely free of charge, and particularly complex cases are transferred to Spain to be operated on in optimal conditions.
Pedro Cavadas, who leads and gives his name to this Foundation, completed his degree in medicine in 1989 at the Valencia Faculty of Medicine with honours and was awarded the Extraordinary Prize for his degree and the Second National Prize for his degree in medicine. He trained as a Resident Intern at La Fe Hospital in Valencia, where he obtained the speciality of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 1995. He has been a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Valencia since 1995 and, together with his team, Pedro Cavadas performs some 1,800 operations a year. Throughout his career he has achieved numerous medical milestones, including performing the first face transplant in Spain in 2009 and the first in the world to include a jaw and tongue.
