The 10 K Valencia will be, in the year 2020, part of the competitions with the IAAF Gold Medal, making it the fifth 10K race in the world with this distinction.
Valencia City of Running continues to be the city in the world with the most IAAF Labels, adding three Gold Labels.
Valencia, 13-09-2019.- The 10K Valencia Ibercaja, organised by the C.A. 10K Valencia, enters the world elite of races after fulfilling, in its last edition in 2019, the criteria of the Gold Label awarded by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
In this way, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja obtains the World Athletics (IAAF) Gold Label, which recognizes the best races in the world and turns the Valencian race into the fifth 10K race in the world that will hold this distinction.
In January 2019, when it premiered its Bronze Label, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja aimed firmly to carry out the best edition of its history and the result could not be better: it concluded with great records such as the winners Chala Ketema (27:23) and Tsehay Gemechu (30:15), the third best world record of all times and Ethiopia’s record of 10 kilometers en route. In addition, the competition boasted other milestones such as the Spanish record of 10K female Trihas Gebre (31:39) or the best world record of 10K M55 achieved by Martin Fiz (31:40).
In Spain, other than 10K Valencia Ibercaja, only the Nationale-Nederlanden San Silvestre Vallecana has this recognition in this distance. In the rest of the world, three other 10km en route races have this same recognition: Ottawa 10K (Canada), Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bengaluru (India) and Birell Prague Grand Prix (Czech Republic).
The director of the 10K Valencia Ibercaja, Alex Aparicio, together with the rest of the Organization, are greatly satisfied after receiving this news and has taken the opportunity to thank “the work and support to every person, institutions, partners and sponsors such as Ibercaja and the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, which have made it possible to have come this far”.
Valencia, the city in the world with the most IAAF Labels
This gratifying news further endorses Valencia as the City of Running. In addition to being the city with the most IAAF Labels in the world, five in total, Valencia already has three Gold Labels, after adding the 10K Valencia Ibercaja to the golden category of the Half Marathon and Valencia Marathon, which were the first in Spain.
These distinctions place the five Valencian races, among which are also the 10K Valencia Trinidad Alfonso (Silver Label) and the 15K Nocturna Valencia Banco Mediolanum (Bronze Label), among the best races in the world.
Now, said Álex Aparicio, “we will continue to work hard to offer the best possible race to the thousands of non-professional runners who trust us every year. That was our first sign of identity and it will continue to be, it is in our DNA, we do not forget that above all the 10K is a non-professional race. On 12 January 2020 we will celebrate our XII edition with more enthusiasm than ever so that all of them can continue to enjoy their 10K, a race that in the last five years has always managed to have around 11,000 finishers and more than 13,000 registered”.
