Two continental records and nineteen national records in a memorable Valencia 10K

The Valencia 10K set new European records for men and women, as well as a new Spanish record for men. In addition, fourteen national records for men and five national records for women were broken.

January 12, 2026. The Valencia Ibercaja 10K by Kiprun held its most popular edition to date on Sunday, January 11, with 14,134 runners crossing the finish line, once again breaking numerous personal records as well as official records.

Specifically, two continental records and a total of nineteen national records, fourteen men's and five women's, were broken at the 2026 Valencia 10K. The day began with the victory of Swedish athlete Andreas Almgren, who set the Swedish and European national records by crossing the finish line in 26:45.

In the women's event, British athlete Eilish McColgan set a new European and British record with a time of 30:08.

Fourteen men's national records

On the men's side, national records were also broken in Spain by Said Mechaal (27:25), Sweden by Andreas Almgren, and Germany, Norway, Portugal, Ireland, the Netherlands, Iceland, Israel, Finland, Andorra, and Slovakia. In addition, Great Britain's record was equaled.

In women's events, Eilish McColgan's record in Great Britain is joined by those of Portugal, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Puerto Rico.

Thus, the 10K Valencia Ibercaja by Kiprun once again experienced an exciting day with records that will go down in athletics history, in which 233 athletes finished in under 30 minutes (229 men and four women).  

A total of 1,189 participants ran under 35 minutes, and 2,524 under 40 minutes, among both men and women. These figures show that Valencia is the fastest 10-kilometer race in the world, attracting more and more runners from Spain and abroad who want to participate. 

The largest edition of the 10K 

All these records were achieved in the 18th edition of the Valencia Ibercaja 10K, in which a total of 14,134 amateur runners crossed the finish line after enjoying the streets of Valencia, the City of Running, and flying around the circuit of the best 10K in the world. In addition, 1,395 runners enjoyed the 5K race, bringing the total number of runners who crossed the finish line on January 11 to 15,529.

Thousands of runners set off to the beat of Chimo Bayo's "Hu-Ha!" from the Paseo de la Alameda, kicking off another year of running in style and making this the most popular 10K race to date.
