Valencia, 15-01-23.- The 10K Valencia Ibercaja brings together nearly 10,000 runners who have crossed the finish line at the Paseo de la Alameda after flying through the fastest circuit in the world in a highly anticipated day in the city of running. The race, which holds the world record with the 26:24 of Rhonex Kipruto in the 2020 edition, has inaugurated in a big way the year of races in the city by achieving the second best time in the history of 10K in the women's category.
In this way, the Ethiopian athlete Yalemzerf Yehualaw has beaten the course record for women by crossing the finish line in 29:19, just five seconds behind her 10K World Record. Kenyans Jesca Chelangat and Esther Birundu were second and third with times of 30:01 and 30:15.
In the men's category, Weldon Kipkirui Langat (Kenya) took the victory stopping the clock in 26:55. He was followed by Kenyans Charles Kipkirui and Daniel Tumaka, with 26:57 and 27:01, respectively.
As for the Spanish performance, Joselyn Daniely Brea (who has dual Spanish and Venezuelan nationality) was the winner with a time of 32:05, the second best Spanish female 10K time in history. Beatriz Álvarez (Valencia Atletismo) and Maitane Melero, with times of 33:02 and 34:45, respectively, were second and third. In men, Ilias Fifa (27:57), Jesús Ramos (28:21) and Roberto Aláiz (Serrano C.A., 28:43) were the first three Spaniards to reach the finish line.
10K Valencia Ibercaja Qualifications
As for the classification of clubs or teams, Serrano C.A., Metaesport and Redolat Team were the three fastest clubs in this edition, while Redolat Team, Runners Ciutat de Valencia and Paterna Runners Club were the most numerous.
All these records have been achieved in a 15th edition of the 10K Valencia Ibercaja, in which a total of 9806 popular runners have reached the finish line after enjoying the streets of Valencia Ciudad del Running and flying through the fastest circuit in the world. The thousands of runners, who took the start to the rhythm of Chimo Bayo's Hu-Ha! from the Paseo de la Alameda, inaugurated the year of running in style.
5K Valencia Vamos and 10Kids
The day started with the 5K Valencia Vamos, the 5 kilometer race that celebrated this year its 1st edition starting from the Puente de las Flores and has brought together more than 1,100 runners at the finish line of the Paseo de la Alameda.
The participants of the 5K, 57% of whom were women, were able to take part in a successful first edition. The absolute winners of this race were Olle Hlberg and Paula Herrera, who crossed the finish line in 14:07 and 16:12 respectively.
5K Valencia Vamos Qualifications
In addition, to close the morning of athletics in the city of running, the little ones have also enjoyed their races with the 10Kids Valencia. The children's races have had more than 600 participants, who have been animated by Joxe Fernandez and have run a circuit of between 300 and 1500 meters in the same Paseo de la Alameda, always guided by the race car of Hyundai Autiber Motor.
